Reader favourite : Aloe Vera

I have pretty much had countless requests for research on aloe vera almost as far back as when I first started the blog. I have to say I have been dodging this topic because there is sooooooo much out there and sorting through it was a daunting prospect.

There really isn't direct information on its use on hair specifically but certainly alot on skin. Given the similarity of skin and hair, I still think this is a pretty good haul.

1. Aloe vera gel may be able to soothe, moisturize and help heal/regenerate skin ( Phytotherapy Research, pg 987-1000, 2003 )

2. It has antifungal, antibacterial and antiviral properties (Ethnopharmacol, pg 3–37, 1999 and J Am Acad Dermatol, pg 714–720, 1988).

3. It has a high water content and therefore moisturizes and helps to seal in moisture. It also helps to soften skin (Phytotherapy Research, pg 987-1000, 2003 )

4. It has antioxidant and antiinflammatory properties.(Phytotherapy Research, pg 987-1000, 2003 )

There is so much more research on aloe vera especially for medical use. Some
of it is contrasting but either way, I'm happy that it is getting so much attention.

Do you use aloe vera, what for and is it any good?
