Birds that haven't left
Posted on Thursday, February 3, 2011 by Arman Zulhajar
Oh, summer , please, come soon. The yellow dress is waiting!
And now-stop feeding ducks and swans! But it's probably too late anyway. A friend of mine saw a swan duckling who never left for the warmer climate. They become too heavy and too comfortable with the free food. But the bread is not such a valuable source of energy . Bread is bad for ducks as, apparently, they have trouble digesting it.
Artificial feeding of waterfowl can cause:
Poor nutrition
Increased hybridization
Water pollution
Delayed migration
Concentrations at unnatural sites
Overcrowding
Spread of disease
Costly management efforts
Unnatural behavior
Cumulative effects
Devaluation of the species
