Apple iTunes 10.5.1 beta with iTunes Match

iTunes Match was initially part of iTunes 10.5 and appeared set to debut alongside iOS 5 and iCloud, but at Apple's media event last week the company announced that iTunes Match would not launch until the end of October.

This move suggests that iTunes Match is not yet completely ready for launch, and that more bugs need to be worked out in this beta before everyone else can try it out. The last beta version of iTunes 10.5 still had some remaining issues with iTunes Match functionality, and Apple has given itself a few more weeks to address those problems by pulling the feature out into a separate iTunes 10.5.1 release.

Both iOS 5 and iTunes 10.5 include an automatic downloads feature that lets you choose to have your device or computer automatically download any music, books, and/or apps you buy on other iTunes-running computers or iOS devices. Apple still notes that all iCloud libraries are to be deleted once the beta period is over, which is scheduled to be sometime at the end of this month, as Apple had announced that iTunes Match would not be ready until then.

Upon its launch, iTunes Match will cost its users $24.99/year, and will allow those users to match their music libraries with Apple’s database containing over 20 million tracks and have access to their entire music collection over iCloud. Unfortunately, iTunes Match will be limited to the United States only at launch, but is expected to expand internationally soon after.
