Women's Vintage Clothing - Where Should You Shop?

Vintage clothing is loved for many reasons. One of the main reason to wear vintage clothing is to wear something that is one of kind and stand out in the crowd. From celebrities to club goers to the every day working gal, vintage clothing is unique and fun to wear.

It is also often made in fabrics that are very high quality making them stand the test of time thus allowing for continuous wear by many generations. Whether you're talking about jeans or vintage dresses, the attention to detail of days gone by are to be appreciated.

So the question is where to find these fabulous pieces? To this day you'll find many people frequent thrift shops in the hopes of finding a treasure. That's a great place to start. Items that are donated to thrift shops come from all walks of life and although not as easy to find as years ago, you can still get lucky and find some great pieces.

The other place to think about is estate sales. Estate sales are usually ran by a professional estate clearing house. Estate sales are where an entire home's contents are up for sale and many times that includes clothing. Since a lot of the time estate sales are after a homeowner passes away, you may very well find some fantastic pieces of vintage clothing.

Lastly let's not forget online auctions. The main one being eBay of course. Since people know they can make money selling collectibles on eBay, they usually save their items to be sold on this site. So why fight it? eBay is usually THE place to find all kinds of vintage clothing. The price you pay is really up to you. Bid as high or as low as you want but be sure to check out all the details of the item you are bidding on as well as the reputation of the seller. There are some very experienced vintage clothing sellers on eBay and you will not be disappointed at the selection.

Keep in mind that clothing sizes are not the same now as they were way back when. Measurements are usually included in the item listing but if not, just ask the seller. The best thing to do is measure a piece of clothing you own now for comparison.

Whichever route you go make sure you inspect the item carefully. You are, after all, buying a piece of used clothing that has been around for some time. The alternative to this is to purchase reproductions sometimes referred to as "retro." There are some fantastic pieces made now. The availability of sizes as well as modern stretchy fabrics allow for a wider selection to choose from.

Brigitte Martinez owns the site Cheap Vintage Clothing which is a site dedicated to vintage clothing found on eBay but in an organized fashion.

She is also the author of Thrift Store Goldmines which is a book about what to sell on eBay showing you how to resell vintage items from thrift store for big profits.
